Coromandel Peninsula - Accessible/Easy Access Accommodation & Activities

Coromandel Peninsula is mostly a combination of rocky coast and sandy bays and beaches and landward much that is bush clad and rough. BUT despite this accessible places are everywhere - beaches and bays on both sides of the Peninsula have grassy reserves and picnic areas and the hot pools at Hot Water Beach (shown in one of the images above) are an easy walk along firm sand. Centres like Thames, Coromandel, Whitianga and Whangamata have no particular access difficulties and a mix of cafes and restaurants and local crafts.

Going inland is a little problematic but possible in places - especially on the unique (accessible) Driving Creek Railway at Coromandel - the photo shows just what its like. Another distinctive experience is the Lost Spring and Spa at Whitianga - hot pools and pampering in a truly tropical setting.
