Auckland - North Shore - Accessible/Easy Access Accommodation & Activities

North Shore Accessibility
Notable North Shore features (among many) are the volcanic cones, Devonport, the beaches and the large shopping malls, especially Albany.

The volcanic cones, Mt Victoria and the nearby smaller North Head are not places that people with impaired mobility should try to climb. But it is possible to drive up both of them to get panoramic views over the city. There is some mobility parking and there are flat in places on the sides and top of both to walk around, with seating to take in the view. There is more information about North Head in the activity listing below.

Devonport is a popular place to come by ferry from the city. Ferries are accessible - depending on the tides ramps can be steepish but the crew are happy to help. Interest in Devonport lies in its well - preserved historic buildings - many now home to very popular cafes and restaurants, and its new library. The street slopes upward towards the restored Victoria Theater at the top end. You can see much of Devonport without tackling this rise if its a bit challenging.

All of the North Shore beaches have grassy picnic areas in places and some mobility parking at main access points. You can find out more about Takapuna Beach in the activities description below. Albany mall is the biggest on the North Shore as you would expect the mall is easy access and there is generous provision of mobility parking at several places around it.
